Antonio Caldara (1670–1736), esteemed by his peers as one of Europe’s finest composers, worked in major Italian cities and at the court of King Charles III in Barcelona. When Charles became Emperor Charles VI, Caldara joined the Viennese court as vice-chapelmaster. In 1726, at the height of his career, he composed the oratorio Gioseffo che interpreta i sogni (Joseph, the Interpreter of Dreams), based on the biblical story of Joseph. The libretto by Giovanni Battista Neri adds dramatic depth with characters like the deceptive servant Zedekiah and a lyrical narrator. Rich orchestration and sophisticated counterpoint reflect the emperor’s musical tastes.

Coro Maghini is a professional choir based in Turin, Italy, renowned for its long-standing collaboration with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai since 1995. This partnership has led to acclaimed performances of major choral works by J.S. Bach, including the Mass in B minor, St. Matthew and St. John Passions, and Magnificat. The choir has worked with distinguished conductors such as Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Kirill Petrenko, and Gianandrea Noseda. Since 2007, they have also collaborated closely with Academia Montis Regalis and its director Alessandro De Marchi, especially on Baroque projects, including their latest release on the Glossa label.
