Seven years after their album Debussy… et le jazz, the musicians of the Quatuor Debussy came up with the idea of celebrating Ravel in three very different ways. In addition to the famous String Quartet, they recorded a transcription of Ma mère l’Oye by Alain Brunier and invited vibraphonist Franck Tortiller to join the project. Together, they blend jazz improvisations into the original score of Le Tombeau de Couperin—a genre that Ravel, as we know, particularly appreciated.

Over the past 30 years, the Quatuor Debussy has built an acclaimed international career, performing on major stages across the globe and earning top honors such as the First Prize at the Evian International Competition (1993) and a Victoire de la Musique (1996). Renowned for its artistic versatility, the Quartet collaborates across disciplines, from dance and theater to jazz, pop, circus, and digital arts. Dedicated to education and outreach, they lead workshops for children and underserved audiences. Their extensive discography features French music, Shostakovich, and innovative projects with artists like Keren Ann and Marc Mellits, reflecting their dynamic, inclusive vision of classical music.

Franck Tortiller (b. 1963) is a prominent French jazz vibraphonist, marimba player, composer, and big band leader. A graduate of the conservatories in Dijon and Paris, he won first prize at the Concours de la Défense in 1989. His discography includes notable trio and quartet projects, as well as solo and duo performances, particularly with percussionist Patrice Héral. From 1993 to 2000, he was a key member of the Vienna Art Orchestra, and he directed the Orchestre National de Jazz from 2005 to 2008, earning a Django d'Or in 2007. He composes extensively and founded the "Jazz à Couches" festival.
