Philippe Mazé (b. 1954) is a French musician known for his extensive training and versatile career as a conductor, composer, and teacher. He studied at the École Normale de Musique in Paris, excelling in multiple disciplines including harmony, conducting, and vocal technique. At 23, he became Chapelmaster at the Basilique du Sacré-Cœur and later at the Église de la Madeleine. Renowned for choral conducting, he composed the Te Deum for Prince Rainier III of Monaco in 2004. With over 100 motets, 20 masses, and other works published internationally, his music is expressive, text-sensitive, and rooted in spiritual and poetic inspiration.
Founded in 2016, figure humaine is a young professional chamber choir devoted to German-French choral and song repertoire from the 19th to 21st centuries. Led by Prof. Denis Rouger, the ensemble is praised for its refined sound and stylistic depth. Based in Stuttgart, it performs regularly at prestigious festivals in Germany and abroad. The choir collaborates closely with the Stuttgart Philharmonic and composers Philippe Mazé and Axel Ruoff. It has released several acclaimed CDs, including a 2024 collaboration with SWR and a 2025 album featuring works by Philippe Mazé. The choir receives institutional support from Stuttgart and Baden-Württemberg.
