After performing and arranging for major bands and artists such as Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, and Bing Crosby, he moved to England in 1946 to work on London Town, co-found London Records, and form the Kingston Symphony. Returning to the U.S., he supervised music at Decca Records and conducted for television. In 1962, with Walt Disney’s encouragement, he founded Sunset Sound and later The Sound Factory, both legendary studios. He also produced hymn recordings and authored Fugue Simplified.
