Jonas Kaufmann’s new album presents two of Robert Schumann’s greatest song cycles, Dichterliebe and Kerner-Lieder, in collaboration with pianist Helmut Deutsch. With refined artistry, Kaufmann conveys the emotional range of Dichterliebe, from passionate joy to profound heartbreak, while the Kerner-Lieder highlight Schumann’s more introspective, dramatic voice, exploring themes of solitude, nature, and spiritual longing. As a bonus, the release includes six unreleased recordings from Kaufmann’s student years in 1994, offering a rare glimpse into his early artistry. The album unites sensitivity, poetic insight, and long-standing musical partnership in a powerful tribute to Romantic song.

Jonas Kaufmann (b. 1969, Munich) is a German-Austrian tenor acclaimed for his versatility across French, German, and Italian opera, as well as for his artistry in Lieder. Trained in Munich and through masterclasses with Hans Hotter, James King, and Josef Metternich, he launched his career in Saarbrücken and has since sung over 70 roles at leading houses including La Scala, Covent Garden, the Met, and Vienna State Opera. Celebrated for both vocal mastery and dramatic depth, he has won numerous awards, including eleven ECHO/OPUS Klassik prizes, and honors such as the Légion d’honneur. In 2024, he became Director of the Tyrolean Festival Erl.
