Itzhak Perlman (b. 1945, Tel Aviv) overcame childhood polio to become one of the world’s most celebrated violinists. Trained first in Israel, he later studied at Juilliard with Ivan Galamian and Dorothy DeLay. His American debut in 1963 and victory at the 1964 Leventritt Competition launched his international career, leading to performances with major orchestras and collaborations with artists such as Barenboim, Zukerman, Du Pré, Harrell, and Ashkenazy. Renowned for his radiant sound, broad repertoire, and engaging personality, Perlman has excelled across classical, jazz, and klezmer traditions. He is also a dedicated teacher, advocate for disabled musicians, and conductor with leading orchestras.
