Bulgarian-born virtuoso bassoonist Gueorgui Chachikov, principal bassoonist of the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, has performed widely across Europe. His latest album presents four masterworks of the bassoon concerto, exploring the instrument’s technical evolution, expressive range, and historical development. Through his exceptional technique and rich musicality, Shashkov reveals the bassoon’s full potential, transforming it from orchestral foundation to a vehicle of profound artistry. The recording not only showcases his virtuosity but also immerses listeners in a universal musical experience that transcends instrumental boundaries, reaffirming his reputation as one of today’s leading bassoon interpreters.

Chachikov studied bassoon from 1998 under Georg Krutsch at the University of Music and Performing Arts Weimar, later transferring to Cologne, where he graduated in 2005 with top honors and earned his German national musician qualification in 2007. He served as principal bassoonist of the Classic Philharmonic Bonn (2002–2004) and Cologne Chamber Orchestra (2004–2006), while also appearing at major festivals as a chamber musician. Since 2007, he has been principal bassoonist of the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, performing frequently as soloist. His competition successes include finalist at Bayreuth (2001) and prizes in Cologne (2006), Wind and Percussion (2007), and Takarazuka Vega (2008).
