Gelosia! is Philippe Jaroussky’s newest recording with his ensemble Artaserse, centered on the powerful theme of jealousy. The album features two world-premiere recordings of solo cantatas titled La Gelosia, composed by Nicola Porpora and Baldassare Galuppi—both setting the same Metastasio text but written decades apart. These fresh discoveries are presented alongside related works by Vivaldi, Handel, and Alessandro Scarlatti, creating a vivid exploration of emotional turbulence in Baroque vocal music

Philippe Jaroussky (b. 1978) is a renowned French countertenor celebrated for his exceptional vocal agility and expressive nuance. Originally trained as a violinist and pianist, he later pursued singing and developed a wide repertoire centered on Baroque music. He is especially known for interpretations of Vivaldi and Handel, while also championing lesser-known composers such as Porpora, Caldara, and Steffani. Jaroussky performs with leading Baroque ensembles worldwide and founded his own group, Ensemble Artaserse, with which he tours internationally. Alongside early music, he embraces contemporary creations, premiering works written specifically for him. His extensive award-winning discography is released exclusively on Erato-Warner Classics.
