This album features violinist Tibor Gyenge and pianist Michael Schöch in a vibrant selection of Mozart’s violin sonatas, composed as refreshing diversions from the composer’s routine commissions. Written during his travels, these works reflect contemporary trends such as the expressive Mannheim style in Sonatas K.301 and K.304. Mozart’s evolving treatment of the violin—from accompaniment to equal partner—is exemplified in the Variations K.360, where the instrument gradually takes prominence. With historically informed yet modern interpretations, Gyenge and Schoch bring clarity, elegance, and depth to these performances, showcasing both artists’ distinguished artistry and stylistic sensitivity.

Born in Sibiu, Romania, in 1989 to a Hungarian-Romanian musical family, violinist Tibor Gyenge began studies with his father before attending the Béla Bartók Music School and the University of the Arts in Graz, graduating with distinction. He later earned a master’s degree under Daniel Gaede in Nuremberg, where he also taught. Gyenge refined his artistry through masterclasses with renowned violinists such as Zakhar Bron and Leonidas Kavakos and through chamber collaborations with leading quartets and soloists. As a soloist, he has performed with major European orchestras and, since 2016, has served as assistant first concertmaster of the Staatskapelle Dresden.

Michael Schöch (b. 1985) studied piano in Innsbruck, Munich, and Salzburg, and organ in Munich. Distinguished for his mastery of both instruments, he gained international prominence after winning first prize in the organ category at the ARD International Music Competition—awarded for the first time in 40 years. His career has brought him to major concert halls and cathedrals across Europe, as well as leading festivals such as the Salzburg Easter Festival and Bayreuth Festival. Schöch has performed with orchestras including the Bavarian Radio Symphony, Camerata Salzburg, and Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. His artistry is captured in numerous recordings and broadcasts, with a discography of 15 CDs featuring works by Reubke, Reger, Brahms, Strauss, and Wagner.
