Concerto Copenhagen reimagines Bach’s six organ trio sonatas as a completely new set of “Brandenburg Concertos,” transforming intimate keyboard works into dynamic orchestral pieces. These inventive arrangements, created by oboist Antoine Torunczyk, draw inspiration from Bach’s original Brandenburg Concertos while exploring fresh instrumental colors and ensemble configurations. Each concerto features different combinations of period instruments—including recorder, flute, oboe d’amore, oboe da caccia, viola d’amore, natural horn, bassoon, and violoncello da spalla—expanding the expressive possibilities of the music. The result is a vibrant addition to the Baroque orchestral repertoire, illuminating Bach’s creativity through modern historically informed performance.

Concerto Copenhagen, founded in 1991, has become Scandinavia’s leading Early Music orchestra, specializing in Baroque, Classical, and early Romantic repertoire. Under the artistic direction of Lars Ulrik Mortensen since 1999, the ensemble is known for its historically informed yet innovative approach, combining scholarship with fresh, engaging performance. Their interpretations highlight both authenticity and creativity, bringing historical works vividly to life for modern audiences.
