Navona presents a live performance by the Philharmonie Austin under conductor Mark Dupere, offering a stirring tribute to one of history’s most enduring composers. Featuring Symphony No. 5 and Romeo and Juliet, the ensemble performs on period instruments, capturing the vibrant colors and emotional depth that define Tchaikovsky’s music. From the grandeur of his symphonic writing to the passion of his orchestral drama, this recording highlights the timeless artistry of the composer whose masterpieces—such as Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, and the 1812 Overture—have transcended the concert hall to become cultural landmarks.

Mark Dupere is an accomplished conductor and cellist who has performed extensively across Europe and the United States. He serves as conductor of Philharmonie Austin and Associate Professor of Music at Lawrence University Conservatory, where he directs the Lawrence Symphony Orchestra. As a period instrument specialist, he has performed with ensembles such as the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Haagsche Hofmuzieck, and Anima Eterna, and apprenticed with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment in London. A national finalist for the American Prize in Conducting, Dupere was also an “Emerging Artist” at the Victoria Bach Festival and a competitor in the Leipzig Bach Competition.
