Tenor Rolando Villazón joins L’Arpeggiata, led by Christina Pluhar, for the new album Orfeo son io, inspired by Greek mythology. The programme blends works by Monteverdi, his contemporaries, and later composers such as Gluck, Gardel, and Bonfá. Villazón first collaborated with Pluhar and L’Arpeggiata in 2016, performing Monteverdi’s Orfeo at Musikfest Bremen, which led to further European engagements. In 2021, they reunited to premiere the Orfeo son io programme at the same festival, receiving widespread acclaim and inspiring additional concerts across Europe.

Rolando Villazón, born 1972 in Mexico City, is an internationally acclaimed tenor, director, author, and cultural ambassador. After training at Mexico’s National Conservatory and young artist programs in Pittsburgh and San Francisco, he rose to prominence following multiple prizes at Plácido Domingo’s Operalia in 1999. He has performed at major opera houses, including the Met, La Scala, and Salzburg Festival, collaborating with leading conductors. Since 2007, he has been a Deutsche Grammophon recording artist, selling over two million albums. Villazón also directs opera, hosts radio and TV programs, writes novels, and serves as artistic director of the Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg, holding France’s Chévalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
