In this album, pianist Dana Ciocarlie explores the rich musical heritage of Romania through works by Enescu, Bartók, Lipatti, and other leading composers. Her playing combines poetry, vitality, and narrative depth, revealing the cultural soul of a nation shaped by song, dance, and tradition. Moving between nostalgia and joyful energy, Ciocarlie transforms each piece into a vivid musical portrait, rooted in regional rhythms and melodies. The album becomes both a celebration and an act of transmission, honoring Romania’s living traditions while reimagining them with warmth, authenticity, and expressive generosity.
Dana Ciocarlie (b. 1968) is a French pianist and pedagogue of Romanian origin, shaped by both the Romanian piano tradition and the French school. She studied in Paris at the École Normale de Musique and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique, where her artistic outlook was further refined through a formative encounter with Christian Zacharias, particularly in the music of Schubert. Renowned for her mercurial temperament and expressive generosity, Ciocarlie commands a wide repertoire from Bach to contemporary music. Numerous composers have written works for her, and she is especially recognised as a leading interpreter of Horatiu Radulescu.
