Sharon Bezaly is widely acclaimed not only for her exceptional musicianship, but also for her deep commitment to expanding the flute repertoire. Numerous composers have written works specifically for her, with no fewer than fifteen flute concertos dedicated to her to date. On the album Spellbound, Bezaly performs three such concertos by Sofia Gubaidulina, Sally Beamish, and Mari Takano, all written expressly for her. United by her compelling artistry, these highly personal works form a cohesive triptych that highlights both the individuality of each composer and Bezaly’s expressive range, reaffirming her influential role in contemporary flute music.

Sharon Bezaly is internationally recognized as one of the world’s leading flutists and a foremost advocate of contemporary music. Born in Tel Aviv in 1972, she rose rapidly to prominence, performing with the Israel Philharmonic at age fourteen before pursuing advanced studies in France. After serving as principal flutist of the Camerata Academica Salzburg, she launched a distinguished solo career marked by major orchestral engagements, high-profile residencies, and appearances at leading venues worldwide. With around twenty flute concertos written for her, Bezaly has significantly expanded the modern flute repertoire. Her extensive BIS discography, approaching forty albums, reflects her artistic range and enduring commitment to new music.
