Ignaz Friedman (1882–1948) was a celebrated Polish pianist and composer, ranked among the greatest virtuosi of his era alongside Godowsky, Rosenthal, Hofmann, and Lhévinne. Debuting in Vienna in 1904 with an ambitious program of three piano concertos, he was admired for his effortless technique, rich tone, rhythmic vitality, and distinctive interpretive freedom. Especially renowned for his Chopin interpretations—above all the mazurkas—Friedman combined grandeur with subtle melodic shaping. Though later critics sometimes found his Romantic style unfashionable, his artistry remains highly esteemed. He composed over 90 works, produced important editions, taught notable pianists, and is honored by the Ignaz Friedman Prize for composition.
Anna Parkita is a pianist from Kielce and a graduate of the Ludomir Różycki Music School and the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, where she studied with Jerzy Sulikowski and Jarosław Drzewiecki. She pursued postgraduate studies in Paris with Eugen Indjic and collaborated with Marek Mizera. A prizewinner of several competitions, including “Music Without Limits” in Lithuania and recipient of the Chopin Prize from the Fryderyk Chopin Institute, she performs internationally as soloist and chamber musician. She earned a doctorate in 2020 and combines concert activity with scholarship, authoring a monograph on Antoni Kątski and promoting neglected Polish repertoire through recordings and editions.
