In 1925, on the occasion of his 50th birthday, Berlin composer and publisher Siegfried Translateur (1875–1944) was celebrated as a beloved master of light music. Although his name may be less widely recognized today, the 150th anniversary of his birth offers renewed appreciation of his legacy. A native of Upper Silesia, Translateur achieved notable success with his compositions, most famously Wiener Praterleben, which evolved into the anthem of the Berlin Six-Day Race, known as the “Sportpalast Waltz.” Beyond this popular triumph, his music reflects charm, elegance, and melodic warmth, embodying the spirit of the so-called Silver Age with enduring vitality.
Jan Michael Horstmann (born 1968 in Frankfurt), has served as Principal Conductor of the Mitteldeutsche Kammerphilharmonie in Schönebeck since 2019. He previously held leadership positions at the Landesbühnen Sachsen and the Mittelsächsisches Theater Freiberg/Döbeln, where he was General Music Director and chief conductor. Deeply attuned to stage performance, he has conducted regularly for Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch since 1992 and has appeared internationally at major venues and festivals across Europe, Asia, and South America. His repertoire spans early music on period instruments to numerous contemporary premieres. Also active as a stage director, harpsichordist, and chanson interpreter, Horstmann is known for innovative and stylistically diverse programming.
