Heir of All the Ages surveys four centuries of English music through performances by flautist Beth Stone and lutenist/guitarist Daniel Murphy. The programme reflects EM Records’s commitment to British composers, ranging from Renaissance and Baroque works to contemporary compositions. Beginning with Robert White’s contemplative sacred music and the dances of Anthony Holborne, the disc traces a seamless dialogue between sacred and secular traditions. Purcell’s The Fairy Queen, sensitively arranged for lute, offers a lyrical and imaginative centrepiece. The recording also features world premiere performances of Henry Eccles’s Sonata Settima and Seth Bye’s Bridge 12, alongside Malcolm Arnold’s Fantasy for Flute, highlighting the flute’s expressive range and the enduring vitality of English musical heritage.

Flutes & Frets is a London-based duo known for intimate, compelling performances that explore the expressive possibilities of flute and plucked strings. Drawing on instruments from across historical periods, they present repertoire ranging from medieval to contemporary music, grounded in historically informed performance and primary-source research. Through imaginative arrangements and new commissions, they expand and redefine their repertoire. The duo has performed widely across the UK and Europe, appeared on WDR 3 radio, and featured at major international festivals. Winners of multiple international competitions, they have releases their debut album, Heir Of All The Ages, on EM Records in autumn 2025.
