MADLANDS marks the PENTATONE debut of pianist and composer Yang Bao, presenting an ambitious exploration of human identity amid artificial intelligence and ecological change. Written for piano, six strings, and analog synthesizers, the album’s eleven compositions blend classical forms with electronic textures to create an immersive, futuristic sound world. Opening with a powerful trilogy, the music blurs boundaries between organic and artificial, past and future. Drawing on Bao’s visual art practice, the album pairs sound and imagery to reflect visible and invisible realms. MADLANDS emerges as a bold, contemplative statement on consciousness, connection, and coexistence in a world in flux.

Yang Bao (b. 1991) is a New York–based installation artist, pianist, and composer whose practice spans sound sculpture, performance, video, and painting. Known for large-scale stainless steel sound sculptures and his Infinity Music concept, he transforms landscapes and architecture into immersive, evolving instruments. Trained as a classical pianist at Juilliard and the New England Conservatory, Bao has performed internationally and premiered major works at Carnegie Hall and Festival Napa Valley. His permanent installation HYPERSPACE is held at The Donum Estate. Bao’s work has earned major awards and commissions from leading cultural institutions and luxury brands.
