Bach Revoiced is a distinctive reinterpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach’s solo violin works, performed on C clarinet by Hungarian clarinetist Lajos Rozmán. Featuring the Partita No. 1 in B minor and Sonata No. 2 in A minor, the album reimagines these compositions through the clarinet’s expressive, soprano-like timbre and wide dynamic range. Drawing on decades of engagement with Bach’s music, Rozmán presents these performances as musical realizations rather than strict transcriptions, inspired by Bach’s own adaptive practices. Lajos Rozmán is a Hungarian clarinetist, educator, and conductor, trained at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest and the Conservatoire de Musique in Geneva. With extensive teaching experience at the Liszt Academy and Kodály Institute, he has also led masterclasses internationally. As a performer, he has been active in numerous ensembles, often as founder or artistic director, and has collaborated with prominent contemporary composers and musicians. His work reflects a commitment to musical versatility and innovation, including the promotion of creative pedagogical methods. Recipient of several prestigious awards, Rozmán pursues a broad artistic career encompassing performance, teaching, and conducting, while exploring connections across musical styles.
