Mátyás Seiber (1905–1960) was a versatile and influential composer known for his exceptional musical range and innovation. Notably the world’s first professor of jazz, he later played an active role in the International Society for Contemporary Music and appeared at major festivals. After settling in England, he achieved popular success with a sentimental ballad that earned him the prestigious Ivor Novello Award. Seiber’s output spanned a wide variety of genres, including a cappella choral works, chamber and solo compositions, songs, as well as radio, film, and orchestral music, demonstrating both technical mastery and stylistic diversity.
