Louis Thomas Hardin (1916–1999), known as Moondog, was an American composer, performer, and instrument inventor whose largely self-taught work drew on jazz, classical, Native American, and Latin American influences. Blind from age 16, he developed a distinctive style marked by strong rhythms and contrapuntal structures that later influenced minimalist composers such as Steve Reich and Philip Glass. From the late 1940s to 1972, he lived in New York City, often performing, composing, and selling recordings on Sixth Avenue, where he became a recognizable local figure known as the “Viking of Sixth Avenue” due to his unique appearance.
François Mardirossian is a pianist dedicated to contemporary and eclectic repertoire, shaped by studies with notable mentors including Marie-Annick Chamarande, Henri Barda, and others. His musical interests span composers such as Philip Glass, Chopin, Moondog, Erik Satie, and Keith Jarrett, reflecting a wide stylistic range. He performs regularly across Europe at prominent venues and festivals. His discography includes a 2019 debut album devoted to Moondog and subsequent acclaimed recordings of works by Glass, Hovhaness, and Satie. Also a writer and poet, he contributes to music publications and released a poetry collection in 2018. He co-directs the Superspectives festival and serves as artistic advisor to La Trinité.
