Trumpeter Sebastian Berner, principal of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and 2022 winner of the Maurice André International Competition, presents a program highlighting both familiar and rare repertoire. Alongside Henri Tomasi’s well-known trumpet concerto, the recording features Joseph Jongen’s 1913 Concertino, Léon Stekke’s 1937 concerto in its world premiere recording, and Charles Koechlin’s Chants de Kervéléan, transcribed for trumpet and orchestra by Robert Orlidge. The program also includes Florent Schmitt’s Suite in Three Parts, premiered in its orchestral version by Maurice André in 1956, offering a rich exploration of twentieth-century trumpet literature.

Sebastian Berner (b. 1994) is a leading trumpeter of his generation, having begun his studies at age nine with Markus Klein. He trained at the Munich Hochschule for Music and Theatre under Hannes Läubin and later with Reinhold Friedrich at the Karlsruhe Music Hochschule. Berner has won numerous international competitions, including first prizes at Cittá di Chieri (2016) and the International Bodensee Competition (2017), and has performed with elite ensembles such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and Lucerne Festival Orchestra. He served as principal trumpet of the Stuttgart State Orchestra (2018–2021) and has held the principal trumpet position with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony since 2022.
