Walter Spencer Huffman (1921–2005) was a prolific American composer who demonstrated exceptional musical talent from an early age, teaching himself to read music and compose. He studied at the Peabody Conservatory and further refined his craft under Aaron Copland, Bohuslav Martinů, and Nadia Boulanger. After serving in World War II, he completed his studies with the prestigious Artist’s Diploma and later joined the Peabody faculty. Over a career spanning more than six decades, Huffman produced an extensive body of work, including symphonies, concertos, chamber music, and songs. His compositions, often inspired by Brahms, were performed by major orchestras, reflecting his enduring commitment to traditional craftsmanship and large-scale musical forms.
