This album by pianist Reinis Zariņš and Trio Palladio is a personal homage to Arvo Pärt, one of the most influential contemporary composers. It features Pärt’s iconic piano and chamber works, including Für Alina, Fratres, and Spiegel im Spiegel, alongside his early compositions. The program is complemented by two specially commissioned works by Latvian composers Georgs Pelecis and Andrejs Selickis, written in 2025 for Pärt’s 90th birthday, both receiving their world premiere recordings, reflecting Pärt’s lasting influence on a new generation of composers.
Reinis Zariņš, educated at Yale University and the Royal Academy of Music in London, is a Latvian pianist whose work reflects a deep commitment to musical communication and shared experience. He has performed at prestigious venues including London’s Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Seoul Arts Center, and New York’s Carnegie Hall, as well as in unconventional spaces such as forests, meadows, and tunnels. His repertoire spans from early keyboard masters to contemporary composers, with a particular interest in “pilgrim composers” like Bach, Brahms, Messiaen, and Arvo Pärt. Collaborating with artists including Gidon Kremer, Viktoria Mullova, and Pierre Boulez, he regularly premieres works by leading Latvian composers. Honored with the Order of the Three Stars and five Grand Music Awards, Zarins is a central figure in Latvian musical life.
