Anne-Sophie Mutter inaugurates her new recording series, ASM Forte Forward on Alpha Classics, dedicated entirely to contemporary works composed for her. Marking her 50th anniversary on stage in 2026–2027, Mutter combines artistic curiosity with a commitment to the future of music. The first release, East Meets West, presents a diverse programme spanning solo, chamber, and orchestral settings. It features Likoo for solo violin by Iranian-Dutch composer Aftab Darvishi, Gran Cadenza for two violins by Unsuk Chin, Jörg Widmann’s String Quartet No. 6: Studie über Beethoven, and concludes with Thomas Adès’ Air – Homage to Sibelius, performed with the London Symphony Orchestra under the composer’s direction.
Anne-Sophie Mutter (born 29 June 1963) is one of the most distinguished violinists of her generation. Born in Rheinfelden, Germany, she began studying violin at five and rose to prominence after her 1977 debut with the Berlin Philharmonic under Herbert von Karajan. Since the early 1980s, she has performed worldwide and recorded more than 50 albums, primarily for Deutsche Grammophon, earning multiple Grammy and major international awards. Renowned for championing contemporary music, she has premiered works written especially for her by leading composers. Mutter is also dedicated to philanthropy, founding organizations that support young string players and serving as president of German Cancer Aid (2021–2025).
