The first two volumes of Alessandra Ammara’s Debussy survey have been widely praised for their sensitive interpretation of the composer’s nuanced and painterly style. In Volume 3, she turns to the 12 Études, composed rapidly in 1915 during a challenging period marked by Debussy’s illness and financial pressures. Written near Dieppe after a time of depression, these works reflect a final surge of creativity inspired by the sea. This productive phase also produced En blanc et noir and the Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp, highlighting a late but remarkable culmination of Debussy’s artistic output.

Alessandra Ammara, born in Florence in 1972, is an internationally acclaimed pianist whose career was launched by prizes in major competitions, including GB Viotti, J. Iturbi, and M. Callas. She has performed in leading concert halls across Europe, Asia, the Americas, and South Africa, collaborating with prominent orchestras and conductors. She frequently performs in a piano duo with her husband Roberto Prosseda, recording works by Mendelssohn for Decca. Her solo recordings, spanning Chopin, Schumann, Scelsi, Ravel, and Debussy, have received critical acclaim. Ammara’s repertoire includes complete works by Chopin and monographic programs on major composers, as well as rediscoveries of lesser-known figures such as Roslavetz, Mijaskovsky, and Giacinto Scelsi.
