Louis Vierne (1870–1937) is closely associated with organ music, through which he developed a distinctive symphonic style shaped by the innovations of builders such as Aristide Cavaillé-Coll. His works blend Romanticism with impressionistic color and Wagnerian chromaticism. A pupil of César Franck, Vierne became organist at Notre-Dame in Paris despite near blindness, and composed six influential organ symphonies that remain central to the repertoire. His 24 Pièces en style libre Op. 31 (1913) represent a contrasting, more intimate side of his output, offering concise, expressive pieces suitable for both liturgical and concert use, marked by lyrical refinement and subtle harmonic nuance.
Carlo Mazzone began his musical formation as a chorister with the Fanciulli Cantori of the Cappella Musicale del Duomo di Milano under L. Migliavacca, later pursuing piano studies and formal training at the Conservatorio “Giuseppe Verdi” in Milan. He earned a degree in Musicology from the University of Pavia (Cremona campus), specializing in early notation studies. Continuing his education, he obtained a diploma in Organ and Organ Composition from the Conservatorio “Giuseppe Nicolini” in Piacenza and advanced his expertise through international masterclasses. He also completed studies in harpsichord and Renaissance polyphony in Milan. Currently, he serves as titular organist in Milan and directs the SonoRitaS polyphonic choir.
