For his solo recording debut, Ivan Moshchuk examines the artistic connection between Nikolai Medtner and Sergei Rachmaninoff through their respective piano cycles, Forgotten Melodies and Études-Tableaux. Composed on the brink of a turbulent historical era, these works reflect refined sensibilities while evoking the concept of “Vergessene Weisen,” or forgotten ideals. Moshchuk presents the music as a contemplative exploration of memory, portraying it as a resilient force that persists amid the passage of time and the upheavals of history.

Ivan Moshchuk (b. 1990) is a Russian-American classical pianist born in Moscow and raised in Michigan, recognized for his expressive artistry and international career. He trained with Margarita Molchadskaya and later studied at the Peabody Conservatory under Leon Fleisher, before continuing at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. A recipient of the Gilmore Young Artist Award, he has performed globally at major venues and with leading orchestras. His repertoire spans from Bach to Rachmaninoff, and his recordings include works by Beethoven and contemporary composers. Moshchuk is also active in media, producing experimental concert films that expand the presentation of classical music.
