The album Magische Töne by Jonas Kaufmann presents a selection of celebrated operetta and opera melodies, focusing on works from the Austro-Hungarian era. Featuring compositions by Emmerich Kálmán, Franz Lehár, and Paul Abraham, the album also includes the renowned aria “Magische Töne” from The Queen of Sheba by Karl Goldmark. Recorded in Budapest with the Hungarian State Opera Orchestra under Dirk Kaftan, it highlights the richness and cultural diversity of the period. With soprano Nikola Hillebrand as a duet partner, the album blends nostalgic charm with musical sophistication, reflecting both national identity and a lost cosmopolitan European heritage.
