Imprinting is a project by Accademia Bizantina under Ottavio Dantone that explores late eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century masterpieces on period instruments. This album presents interpretations of Mozart’s Jupiter Symphony and Haydn’s London Symphony, highlighting their distinct approaches within a shared formal language: Mozart’s work is speculative and universal, while Haydn’s is theatrical and grounded in the listener’s experience. By juxtaposing these symphonies, the recording not only celebrates two pinnacle works but also illuminates the transition between musical eras, offering insight into the aesthetic developments that shaped the nineteenth-century symphonic tradition.

Ottavio Dantone, born in 1960, studied harp and harpsichord at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan and launched an early career as a specialist in Early Music, winning first prizes at the Paris and Bruges International Harpsichord Competitions. In 1996, he became musical director of Accademia Bizantina, performing in major concert halls worldwide and conducting leading orchestras such as the Berlin Staatskapelle, La Scala Philharmonic, and Accademia di Santa Cecilia. He has an extensive operatic repertoire spanning classical and romantic works, including Mozart, Rossini, and Handel, with appearances at prestigious venues like La Scala, Glyndebourne, Salzburg Festival, and La Fenice. Since 2003, Dantone has recorded extensively for Decca and Naïve.
