Jakub Hrůša and the Bamberger Symphoniker present a recording dedicated to the six symphonies of Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů (1890–1959), widely regarded as a major 20th-century symphonic cycle. Written during Martinů’s American exile, the works combine lyrical introspection, dramatic breadth, and distinctive Bohemian rhythmic vitality and colour. The orchestra, founded in 1946 and historically linked to Prague’s musical traditions, brings its characteristic warm sonority to the cycle. Under Hrůša’s direction, the project emphasizes structural clarity and expressive depth, highlighting both the composer’s transatlantic experience and the ensemble’s inherited Central European heritage in a unified interpretative vision.
Jakub Hrůša (born 1981, Czech Republic) is Chief Conductor of the Bamberg Symphony, Music Director of The Royal Opera, Covent Garden, and will become Chief Conductor of the Czech Philharmonic in 2028. He regularly collaborates with the world’s leading orchestras and has conducted acclaimed opera productions at Salzburg, Vienna, Paris, Zurich, Chicago, Covent Garden, and Glyndebourne. A frequent partner of top soloists, Hrůša has an extensive award-winning discography, including Gramophone Awards, ICMA Prizes, BBC Music Magazine Awards, and a Grammy nomination. Honored with the Bavarian Order of Merit (2025) and the Czech Senate’s Silver Medal (2024), he is recognized as one of today’s foremost conductors.
