Hilary Kleinig is a cellist, composer, creative producer, and educator based in Adelaide, Australia, whose work emphasizes collaboration, care, and community engagement through music. A versatile performer on modern, baroque, and amplified cello, she has collaborated with a wide range of international artists and ensembles, including Sia, Jóhann Jóhannsson, the Australian Art Orchestra, and the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, and served for over 20 years as Artistic Director of Zephyr Quartet. Her compositions and interdisciplinary projects have been commissioned by major Australian ensembles such as the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, and frequently integrate community participation and social impact initiatives. Kleinig also works extensively in theatre, dance, and sound design, and is known for large-scale collaborative works such as The Lost Art of Listening, which explores contemporary attention and shared sonic experience. Her practice reflects a commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and the transformative potential of music in society.
