Ariana Kim’s debut solo album, Routes of Evanescence, presents a compelling exploration of female-composed works written between 1926 and 2012. Featuring collaborators Ieva Jokubaviciute and Jennifer Curtis, the recording blends classical, folk, and bluegrass influences while reflecting on the fleeting and emotional nature of music. Highlights include Sonata for Violin and Piano and Sonata in Three Movements, the latter connected to the first Pulitzer Prize awarded to a female composer. Kim’s expressive artistry, combined with inventive instrumentation such as harpsichord and mandolin, creates an atmospheric and emotionally nuanced listening experience.
Ariana Kim is an acclaimed violinist, educator, and chamber musician recognized by The New York Times for her artistry and musical integrity. A graduate of Juilliard School and now a tenured professor at Cornell University, she has built an international career as soloist, concertmaster, and collaborator. As a member of the Aizuri Quartet, she earned major honors including the Osaka International Competition Grand Prize, the M-Prize, and a GRAMMY nomination. Kim is also known for her commitment to contemporary music, social justice projects, and cross-cultural collaboration, including studies of Korean gayageum and South Indian Carnatic violin traditions. Her forthcoming 2026 album, (un)common thread, explores improvisation through classical and world folk traditions.
