Martin Owen (born 1973) is regarded as one of Europe’s leading horn soloists and chamber musicians, with an international career spanning major orchestras and ensembles. He has held principal horn positions with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, and the Haffner Wind Ensemble, and has previously served as principal horn of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and guest solo horn with the Berlin Philharmonic. This recording focuses on horn works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart written for the virtuoso horn player Joseph Leutgeb, exploring their contrasting character from youthful exuberance to late-style maturity. Owen reflects on historical discoveries within the repertoire, including recovered passages from Mozart’s horn concertos, which deepen the interpretive understanding of these works.
