The 2023/24 season of the International Bach Academy Stuttgart focused on Johann Sebastian Bach’s first year as Thomaskantor in Leipzig. Beginning in May 1723, Bach composed and performed more than sixty cantatas within a single liturgical year, covering all Sundays and major feast days. Exactly 300 years later, this extraordinary achievement was commemorated through the project VISION.BACH, in which all these cantatas were presented across 23 concerts in Stuttgart and the surrounding region. Performed by the Gaechinger Cantorey under Hans-Christoph Rademann, the project sought to illuminate Bach’s creative intensity and to reassess the enduring relevance of his music and its theological message today.

Hans-Christoph Rademann (b. 1965) is an internationally sought-after conductor with a broad repertoire, from early music rediscoveries to contemporary premieres. A specialist in Bach and Schütz, he recorded Schütz’s complete choral works for Carus and, in 2023/24, performed and recorded Bach’s first annual cantata cycle with the Gaechinger Cantorey. He founded the Dresdner Kammerchor, led the Singakademie Dresden, the NDR Chorus and the RIAS Kammerchor, and since 2013 has directed the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart, where he rebuilt the Gaechinger Cantorey as a period ensemble and expanded education programmes. A frequent guest worldwide, he has received many artistic and civic awards, including the 2025 Handel Ring.
