During the COVID-19 pandemic, Tatsuki Sasanuma utilized his unexpected free time to translate the poems of Robert Schumann’s Dichterliebe into Japanese. Collaborating with his longtime friend, pianist Théo Fouchenneret, Sasanuma created a new arrangement for cello and piano that immerses listeners in the essence of German Romanticism. The duo's profound musical bond infuses these performances with heightened intimacy and depth, revitalizing these emblematic Romantic works. With the addition of carefully selected pieces from Schumann's 5 Lieder und Gesänge and 4 Gesänge, this recording stands as a comprehensive and deeply moving tribute to a defining figure of the Romantic era.
Born in Tokyo in 1994, cellist Tatsuki Sasanuma is an acclaimed soloist and chamber musician who trained at Toho Gakuen, Gakushuin University, and the École Normale de Musique de Paris.
