Mosaic is the debut album of saxophonist Salvador Flores, featuring a curated, cross-genre program that expands the traditional expressive boundaries of the instrument. The collection seamlessly integrates classical masterpieces with jazz and Latin repertoire, recontextualizing canonical works within a contemporary framework. Structurally anchored by Fernande Decruck’s Sonata in C-sharp, the album places music by Ravel, Piazzolla, and Gershwin alongside pieces by jazz legends like McCoy Tyner and prominent Central and South American composers. Interspersed with fluid, improvised transitional fragments, this cohesive artistic statement serves as a musical autobiography reflecting Flores’s diverse background, influences, and collaborative history.
Salvador Flores is a prominent Washington D.C.-based saxophonist, educator, and member of the U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own.” A graduate of the University of Michigan with degrees in performance and improvisation, he studied under Dr. Timothy McAllister and earned the prestigious Albert A. Stanley Medal. Flores's highly decorated career includes winning the 2020 NASA Collegiate Solo Competition and being named a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts. As a former member of the gold-medal-winning Aero Quartet, his chamber debut reached the Billboard top 15. A versatile freelance artist, he performs with major symphonies and maintains an active national teaching schedule.
