Pianist and composer Riad Mammadov fluidly traverses classical music, jazz, and Eastern Renaissance traditions, treating classical repertoire as an open, improvisational structure while maintaining formal discipline in jazz. His artistic philosophy was vividly demonstrated during his Christmas concert at Dom Radio, which presented a unified musical language bridging academic tradition and original composition. The diverse program juxtaposed a jazz opus by Keith Jarrett with a Claude Debussy miniature, followed by Mammadov's commentary on Maurice Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé. Highlighting the event was the world premiere of Mammadov’s own Impressionist-inspired piano cycle, concluding with his conceptually convergent piece, The Letter.
