The album Seelenfrieden, featuring tenor Martin Platz and the lautten compagney BERLIN, explores the existential quest for inner peace during times of turmoil, drawing parallels between the war-torn 17th century and modern global crises. Named after Johann Philipp Krieger’s 1697 collection Musicalischer Seelen-Friede, the recording showcases sacred concertos by Krieger, Schütz, Buxtehude, Theile, and Rosenmüller. Rather than despairing, these text-centered works offer comfort and nuance through evocative, moving musical scenes. Platz delivers the repertoire with deep linguistic sensitivity, complemented by the ensemble's characteristically warm, colorful, and transparent early music performance.
German tenor Martin Platz studied singing and choral conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg, where he has also taught singing since 2007. Currently under the artistic coaching of Tilman Lichdi, Platz is a permanent member of the Staatstheater Nürnberg opera ensemble, where his lyric tenor roles have included Mozart's Tamino, Belmonte, and Don Ottavio, alongside recent performances as Rossini's Count Almaviva and Lindoro. An accomplished oratorio soloist, he frequently performs major works by Bach, Handel, and Mendelssohn across Europe, collaborating with acclaimed conductors such as Christopher Hogwood and Bernard Labadie.
