In July 2026, Métier presents Lieder Zyklen, an eclectic album of contemporary song cycles by Swiss composer Thomas Fortmann. Blending postmodern classical styles with serialism, jazz, and rock, the release features poetry settings by Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Christian Haller, and Fortmann himself, beautifully interpreted by a superb cast of Swiss vocalists and instrumentalists. Highlights include Am Ende des Flurs, The Hofmannsthal Verses, Geschichten, and The Prolitheus Songs. Additionally, the recording features Fortmann’s evocative Hommage to Schubert's Winterreise and his masterly arrangement of the original cycle, performed with profound emotional resonance by baritone Florian Prey and the Amar Quartet.

Born in Switzerland, Thomas Fortmann (born 1951) achieved early acclaim as a highly successful songwriter in the 1970s, composing over one hundred titles recorded by international artists, including Udo Lindenberg and Alexis Korner. Following his controversial, chart-topping musical Tell (1977), Fortmann transitioned at age 26 from rock music to intensive studies in composition and instrumentation. This pivotal shift inspired major works like the Pythagoras Symphony and the opera Collodis Pinocchio. Supported by prestigious European commissions, he later relocated to Tuscany, where he founded the Accademia Amiata, continuing his distinguished career as both a classical composer and festival conductor.
