In this exceptional collection, the early music ensemble Les Timbres, featuring Myriam Rignol, Yoko Kawakubo, and Julien Wolfs, explores a gallery of musical portraits by Baroque masters François Couperin, Antoine Forqueray, Marin Marais, and Jean-Philippe Rameau. The program juxtaposes the composers' intimate self-portraits with reciprocal musical tributes from their peers, illustrating a diverse palette of human emotion. From Couperin's refined modesty and Marais's angelic viola da gamba to Forqueray's tempestuous passion and Rameau's radiant brilliance, these elegant interpretations bestow a vibrant modernity upon these historical silhouettes, highlighting the striking, universal genius of this formidable French quartet.

Since winning First Prize at the 2009 Bruges International Competition, the early music trio Les Timbres, composed of violinist Yoko Kawakubo, violist Myriam Rignol, and harpsichordist Julien Wolfs, has become a premier seventeenth and eighteenth-century chamber ensemble. Renowned for their musical intimacy, the Lyon Conservatoire graduates have earned multiple Diapason d’Or awards for masterly recordings of Rameau and Couperin, alongside a landmark complete Buxtehude cycle. Les Timbres frequently expands into multidisciplinary collaborations and educational outreach, balancing international tours with dedicated teaching positions and creative festival residencies, including their latest project at the Combrailles Bach Festival.
