Nocturni, the new recording project by Duo Ynarsi, comprising Andrea Gallo and Carlo Enrico Sandrini, presents a fresh, timbral reinterpretation of iconic classical masterpieces. By pairing the delicate voice of the guitar with the powerful timbre of the clarinet, the duo turns the dynamic limitations of their instruments into expressive strengths, discovering unique balances and interpretative paths. Featuring re-imagined works spanning Chopin’s precocious early études, Scriabin’s evocative preludes, Brahms’s mature and contemplative intermezzi, Grieg’s varied Lyric Pieces, and Tchaikovsky’s melodic Seasons, this collection transfigures original texts to offer listeners an intimate, speech-like phrasing alongside striking dynamic contrasts.
Carlo Enrico Sandrini is a composer and multi-instrumentalist who graduated summa cum laude in Clarinet from the Como Conservatory and in Composition from the Milan Conservatory. Active as an arranger, composer, and educator, Sandrini writes for commercials, short films, documentaries, and independent music labels, with works featured at contemporary festivals in Milan and Helsinki. His performance portfolio spans chamber and swing ensembles, including recordings for Brilliant Classics. In 2023, he co-founded Duo 1921 with guitarist Andrea Gallo, establishing a repertoire focused on timbral-expressive virtuosity that reframes music consumption from passive entertainment into an engaging intellectual experience.
Born in Milan in 1990, classical guitarist Andrea Gallo graduated with highest honors and special distinction from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory under Paolo Cherici, later completing advanced studies with renowned pedagogues like Andrea Dieci and Enea Leone. An award-winning competition soloist and active chamber musician, Gallo’s recording career includes the world-premiere album Viozzi: Complete Music for Solo Guitar (2022) for Brilliant Classics. Alongside his concertizing, he teaches classical guitar in public schools and directs youth orchestral ensembles. In 2023, he co-founded Duo Ynarsi with clarinetist Carlo Enrico Sandrini, focusing on expressive, timbrally rich chamber repertoire.
