SOMM Recordings presents Quiet Summer Evening – British Light Classics, its second collaboration with Peter Fisher’s Chamber Ensemble of London following their critically acclaimed 2022 release, Eclogue. Celebrating the rich lineage of British light classical repertoire, the album features an array of distinguished soloists alongside the hand-picked string ensemble. Highlighted works include Geoffrey Bush's and Clive Jenkins's compositions featuring clarinetist Peter Cigleris, alongside horn works by Jenkins, Andy Meyers, and Luke Whitlock performed by Alexei Watkins. Multi-instrumentalist Sarah Watts performs her own work as well as pieces by Nigel Brooks and Gordon Jacob, while cellist Michael Mace and violinist-director Peter Fisher bring to life expressive gems by Elgar, Lennox Berkeley, Delius, Terence Higgins, and Don Shearman.

Directed by acclaimed violinist Peter Fisher, whom The Times recognized among the world's finest musicians, the Chamber Ensemble of London is a versatile string ensemble of up to 14 players. Known for broad programming spanning Baroque, classical, light music, and jazz, the group built strong ties with Sir John Dankworth’s Wavendon Festival and frequently performs across prestigious London venues like St Martin-in-the-Fields and St John’s Smith Square. CEOL specializes in thematic, tailored programs for major exhibitions and national events, while its extensive recording catalog continues to enjoy widespread radio airplay, most notably on Classic FM.
