Born in Breslau, German flutist and conductor Kurt Redel (1918–2013) pursued extensive musical training before securing professorship at the Salzburg Mozarteum at age 21. Following tenures with the Bavarian State Opera and the North West German Music Academy, Redel founded the renowned Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Munich in 1953. Celebrated for rediscovering Johann Pachelbel’s Canon and pioneering revivals of Georg Philipp Telemann's works, his prolific recording and festival career earned him numerous prestigious awards, including seven Grands Prix du Disque and the French Commandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
