The Summer Night Concert, set against the UNESCO World Heritage backdrop of Schönbrunn Palace, showcases the Vienna Philharmonic’s commitment to making classical music globally accessible. Reaching audiences across over 80 countries, this year’s performance features Maestro Lorenzo Viotti in his event debut, conducting a diverse program spanning opera, operetta, ballet, and musical theatre. Acclaimed bass-baritone Bryn Terfel delivers iconic selections from Boito, Verdi, Wagner, and Fiddler on the Roof. Enhancing the spectacle, the Vienna State Ballet performs Eno Peçi’s new choreography to Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé, Suite No. 2, projecting shadow figures directly onto the historic palace façade.

The Vienna Philharmonic (Wiener Philharmoniker) stands as one of the most defining ensembles in European classical music history. Founded in 1842 by Otto Nicolai, the orchestra maintains its distinctive artistic heritage through a homogenous musical tradition passed down through generations, along with a unique self-governing structure. Presenting roughly 110 concerts each season, it maintains a major global presence with annual residencies in New York and Japan, alongside regular appearances at the Salzburg Festival. The orchestra reaches millions worldwide through flagship events like its internationally broadcast New Year’s Concert and the open-air Summer Night Concert at Schönbrunn Palace.

Swiss-born conductor Lorenzo Viotti (b. 1990) has rapidly achieved global recognition for his charismatic presence and command across both operatic and symphonic spheres. Following a successful tenure as Musical Director of the Dutch National Opera (2021–25), Viotti assumed leadership as Music Director of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra in 2026 and was named the Zurich Opera House’s next General Music Director starting in 2028. Trained in Lyon, Vienna, and Weimar, he has led prestigious ensembles including the Berlin Philharmonic, Concertgebouw, and La Scala. Viotti’s rising international career continues to flourish with ongoing engagements across major world stages and guest appearances with elite global orchestras.
