On this extraordinary recording, Taiwanese-Swiss cellist Pi-Chin Chien highlights the late-Romantic music of Swiss-Russian composer Paul Juon, famously dubbed the “Russian Brahms.” Accompanied by the Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra under Tomasz Bugaj and the European Fine Arts Trio, the release features two world premieres: the evocative tone poem Mysteries, Op. 59, for cello and orchestra, and the rare Episodes concertantes, Op. 45, for piano trio and orchestra. Masterfully blending Russian soul, German tradition, and Swiss heritage with vibrant tonal color, these performances make a compelling case for the rediscovery of an unjustly neglected master.

Taiwanese cellist Pi-Chin Chien (b. 1964) earned her soloist diploma with distinction, training under renowned masters like Pierre Fournier, Mstislav Rostropovich, and Yo-Yo Ma. An award-winning international soloist and chamber musician, she has performed in iconic venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonic, and Tonhalle Zurich. Her expansive discography highlights premiere recordings of dedicated compositions, major orchestral collaborations with ensembles like the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and acclaimed albums including Taiwan Rhapsody and Tea for Two Cellos. In addition to award-winning film score recordings, Chien serves as artistic director for the "Swiss Music Night," Zurich's "Confluence" Music Festival, and the Taiwan International Cello Festival.
