Dedicated to Sir Edward Elgar's renowned Cello Concerto, the album Sir! features cellist Astrig Siranossian performing alongside the London Symphony Orchestra under conductor François-Xavier Roth. Siranossian plays a historic 1756 Gennaro Gagliano cello, formerly owned by legendary conductor and Elgar champion Sir John Barbirolli and on loan from the Henrot Fund. The orchestral program includes Max Bruch's Kol Nidrei, a work deeply revered by Barbirolli. Completing the album, Siranossian collaborates with pianist Nathanaël Gouin to perform Benjamin Britten's Cello Sonata, bringing together a cohesive collection of British cello masterworks.
Born in 1988, French cellist Astrig Siranossian is an internationally acclaimed soloist, chamber musician, and educator. After completing her studies at the Lyon Conservatoire and the Basel Conservatory under Ivan Monighetti, she earned top honors at the International Penderecki Competition and frequent collaborations with artists such as Daniel Barenboim and Martha Argerich. Her award-winning discography includes Dear Mademoiselle, Saint-Saëns, and 2024's Invisibles. A prominent cultural organizer, Siranossian directs multiple festivals—including Musicades and the Nadia and Lili Boulanger Festival—and founded the Traveling Musicians association. Honored with the Ordre national du Mérite in 2025, she serves on the faculty at the Paris Conservatoire and École Normale Cortot.
