César Guerra-Peixe (1914–1993) was an influential Brazilian composer, violinist, and musicologist who skillfully bridged European classical traditions and native folk idioms. Transitioning from early serialism to a distinct nationalist style, Guerra-Peixe drew heavily on his ethnomusicological research, embedding northeastern rhythms like the baião, maracatu, and frevo into his compositions. Though his solo guitar output is compact, it remains a vital pillar of the Brazilian repertoire, celebrated for its rich polyphony, dynamic contrast, and deep understanding of the instrument.
