Founded in 2014, the Opus13 Quartet comprises Scandinavian string players Sonoko Miriam Welde, Edvard Erdal, Albin Uusijärvi, and Daniel Thorell. Named after Felix Mendelssohn’s String Quartet in A minor, Op. 13, the first piece the ensemble performed together, the quartet showcases this foundational work alongside Edvard Grieg’s String Quartet No. 1 on their debut album. The program highlights the raw emotional intensity of Mendelssohn and the rich Norwegian identity of Grieg, concluding with a transcription of "Solveig’s Song" from Peer Gynt. Acclaimed for their evocative interpretations, Opus13 won First Prize at both the Bordeaux and Wigmore Hall international competitions in 2025, received the 2026 Borletti-Buitoni Prize, and were named BBC New Generation Artists.
