BR KLASSIK's new live album features Franz Liszt's late sacred masterpiece, VIA CRUCIS, recorded in April 2025 at Munich's Prinzregententheater by the Bavarian Radio Choir under Peter Dijkstra. Written in 1878 for soloists, choir, and organ, this innovative and highly idiosyncratic 14-station Passion cycle was rejected by conservative church authorities, leaving it unperformed and unpublished until its 1929 debut in Budapest. The recording is complemented by two sacred works by Liszt's contemporary Peter Cornelius: an 1852 arrangement of the Latin "Requiem aeternam" for male choir and his 1863 non-liturgical Requiem, which sets Friedrich Hebbel's poem honoring the deceased.

Peter Dijkstra (born 1978) is an internationally acclaimed Dutch choral and orchestral conductor, currently serving as Chief Conductor of the Netherlands Chamber Choir and Artistic Director of the Chor des Bayerischen Rundfuŋks. Renowned for his repertoire ranging from medieval polyphony to contemporary premieres, he regularly guest-conducts major European vocal ensembles, symphonic orchestras, and period instrument groups. An award-winning recording artist with accolades including ECHO Klassik and Diapason d’Or honors alongside Grammy nominations, Dijkstra is also a dedicated educator who serves as Professor of Choral Conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg and leads international masterclasses.
